Monday Reset for Women After 40
Let’s get real: If you’re a woman over 40, Mondays can feel like the emotional equivalent of stepping onto a treadmill that’s already set to sprint. The to-do list is long, the emails are multiplying, your phone buzzes before you’ve even had your first sip of coffee, and there’s a good chance you still have one foot in “weekend catch-up” mode. Sound familiar? You’re not alone. In fact, you’re in excellent company. I’m Wendy, author of Wellness After 40 for Women: A Reinvention Plan for Stress Relief, Healthy Habits, Confidence & Vitality. If you’re new here, welcome! This corner of the internet is for real women living real, sometimes-chaotic, sometimes-wondrous lives who want Wellness, energy, and confidence, without having to become a whole new person or give up their sense of humor.
Why Mondays Feel So Heavy (and Why It’s Not Just You)
Remember when Mondays used to be about fresh starts, cute outfits, and maybe a little optimism? Yeah, me neither. These days, Monday can feel like walking into a storm of expectations, your own and everyone else’s. Maybe you had a rough night’s sleep (thanks, hormones). Maybe you’re still carrying last week’s stress. Or maybe you’re just overwhelmed before you even get out of bed. Here’s the truth: you don’t need to fix everything at once. You don’t need to “conquer” Monday or be a productivity superhero. What you do need is a way to start the week on your own terms, with a little softness, more clarity, and a lot more self-compassion. That’s what a Monday reset is all about.
The Beauty of the Monday Reset: It’s Not About Perfection
A Monday reset isn’t about transforming your life overnight. It’s about creating a softer landing at the start of your week. It’s about permitting yourself to do less, but with more intention. Real change comes from small, sustainable steps, not from pressure and guilt. That’s a core message in my book, Wellness After 40 for Women: A Reinvention Plan for Stress Relief, Healthy Habits, Confidence & Vitality. The book is full of these practical resets, simple, doable, and designed for real women who want to feel better now, not “someday.”
Try This: My Go-To Monday Reset
Here’s one of my favorite Monday rituals, straight from the book. You can do it in your pajamas, with messy hair, and a mug of coffee (or tea, or even just a glass of water). It’s not about performance, it’s about presence.
1. Hydrate Before Caffeinate
Drink a big glass of water before your coffee or tea. Trust me, your body will thank you. Hydration wakes up your mind and muscles in a way caffeine just can’t.
2. Take Five Slow Breaths Before Opening Messages
Before you check your phone, email, or news, pause. Sit quietly and take five deep, intentional breaths. Let yourself arrive in your own body before you let the outside world in.
3. Pick Your Top 3 Priorities
Write down the three things that matter most today. Not the loudest, not the most urgent, but the most important. Let these be your anchors.
4. Choose an Easy, Nourishing Breakfast
Don’t skip breakfast. Pick something simple with protein, eggs, yogurt, nut butter on toast, or even last night’s leftovers. Fuel yourself for the day ahead.
5. Clear One Small Surface
Tidy up one little area, your desk, your kitchen counter, your bedside table. Visual calm creates mental calm.
6. Start With a Simple Win
Begin your day with the easiest, most manageable task. Success boosts momentum, and momentum feels so much better than overwhelm.
7. Speak Kindly to Yourself
Notice your inner voice. If it’s already shouting about everything you “should” be doing, pause. Replace it with something softer: “I’m doing my best. Today gets to start gently.”
When Monday Still Feels Heavy
Sometimes, even with the best intentions, Monday is just hard. Maybe you’re running on little sleep, maybe your emotions are still tangled up from the weekend, maybe you’re dreading a meeting or an awkward conversation. That’s okay. What makes Monday so tough isn’t always a lack of motivation; it’s often mental overload and emotional exhaustion. The best way to proceed is to reduce internal noise. Permit yourself to begin again, as many times as you need.
A reset like this doesn’t erase your challenges, but it does give you a moment of clarity and calm. That small shift? It can change the tone of your entire week.

Storytime: How My Mondays Got Softer (and How Yours Can, Too)
Years ago, my Mondays started with anxiety and ended with exhaustion. I’d try to “do it all” before noon, then wonder why I felt defeated by 3 p.m. The turning point came when I realized my mornings didn’t need to be a sprint; they could be a slow, gentle ramp into the week. I started with water, not coffee. I made a rule that I had to take five breaths before checking my phone. I wrote down my top three priorities, even if one was “take a shower.” I permitted myself to do less, and in doing less, I started to feel more, more myself, more present, more at peace. Now, my Mondays are far from perfect (spoiler: my hair is still messy), but they’re mine. They start with a reset, a breath, and a choice to do things with kindness.
