The Classic Nail Polish Colors

  • When it comes to a good manicure, I learned that I don’t need several nail polish choices, only what works with my skin color.

I have a list of my favorite classic nail polish shades for all events and occasions. In the past, I had all the nail polish phases during different moments in life: girly-red, french manicure, gothic black vamp, and all sorts of bright colors. Still, my all-time favorite classic is the french manicure. Back in the day, my style was not defined, and as a college student, my nail colors probably reflected the many flags at the United Nations. I used to love discovering colors and probably matching colors with past emotions and old experiences as a young adult. Let’s say it was a carnival.

Hide The Albums!

In life, we learn through experience; it’s all fun and games until we return home and see our teen or college photo albums again (and those outfits!); makeup and hair colors we used to wear are now debatable. No regrets, though. Those fashion statements and mistakes made us happy at one point, right? In my case, I need to hide the old photo albums inside a safe lock (and throw the keys). Girls go through the awkward process of trying different fashion styles to become one day the confident women we are today. We also learn to appreciate and understand our body, what matches our personality, and what’s favorable according to our skin color. It’s funny, but dear girls, your future confident style will be defined by a series of bad fashion choices today.

A Good Manicure

When it comes to a good manicure, I learned I don’t need several nail polish choices, only what works with my beautiful skin color. That’s it.

Consider Matching Your Nails With Your Skin Tone

I’m an island girl. In the Spanish Caribbean islands, we call my skin color “trigueña.” A mix of the island’s triple background: Native Taino Indigenous, Africans, and Spaniards. We are talking about skin color because your beautiful skin color is the number one factor in finding and choosing the perfect nail color for you.

The Nude Nail Polish

Nude classic nail colors are my favorite for my skin tone. I would say neutral colors are beautiful in all skin colors. Nothing says I’m a “grown-up” like a nude nail color. There are many excellent choices. Nude colors are my weakness when visiting a beauty store. And these are my favorite nudes:

The Pink Nail Polish

Right now, I love the pink blush nail color. It goes perfectly on my skin. I keep finding a favorite pink each summer.

The French Manicure

The French manicure is a classic nail polish and goes well with all skin colors. There are two types of women: those who will only wear french. And those who give the french a bad reputation. It’s a matter of taste and personality. I belong to the first group; I love wearing french at formal events like weddings. It’s 2022, and now we have a modern Frenchy; the key is how I shape and file my nails and modernize this look by using a pink shade as a base coat or playing with any other color combination.

The Taupe and Beige-Grey Nail Polish

I didn’t fall in love with these nail colors immediately. These colors are tricky because they don’t always look good against all skin. Luckily, after many tries, I found the perfect balance—a neutral beige and grey—a perfect transition into the Fall season.

The Classic Red Nail Polish

Fuego! I used to wear the classic red daily. Red nail color is the eternal girly-girly nail polish and a catwalk of nail colors. Red nail colors will always give a “feminine vamp” to any outfit, whether the outfit is a black-tie dress or jeans with a tank top. Another suitable replacement for a red nail color is intense magenta, especially for fall weather.

The Vamp Nail Polish

This color reminds me of my first job in New York City during my early 20s, right after college. It was my daily favorite. I remember spending the money to buy the classic Chanel Vamp nail color every month, which is still my favorite today. The right classic vamp runs into the dark purple or red wine categories, never black. Black is too gothic or extreme for my skin color. My ideal dark vamp is a mix of intense purple-red colors, giving that seductress energy.

I hope all of these choices have been helpful. Remember, we are all beautifully different; therefore, we must find what works for us according to our uniqueness and tastes. There is nothing wrong with trying different colors; that’s how you’ll discover what’s perfect for you and your beautiful skin color.
